Okay, maybe the first time in an age when the front three all took the day off together and we didn’t play all that well. Only we won, we got three points and that’s all that counts when the take the bus home. Horrible day, early kick off and a team who came off the back of an away win at Goodison. Three points, Seven league wins from seven this season, sixteen in succession in total. Makes a wet Sunday morning worth getting out of bed for.
So the Under 21 side go out of the funny named Cup [well I think they’re out although there’s one game still to go]. Nico Williams scored a equaliser but the Reds lost via the penalty shoot out.
A rare win in a domestic Cup game – or so it seemed. A team consisting of those who don’t get a regular start, a couple who needed ‘game’ time and a few faces from the Academy. Maybe the 28,000+ crowd didn’t get to see too much of the Liverpool ‘present’ then maybe they got a glimpse of the Liverpool ‘future’. Those present would have been impressed by the goalkeeping of Caoimhin Kelleher, especially in the second half. Harvey Elliott who is being widely viewed as ‘one for the future showed flashes of just why and the likes of Curtis Jones, Rhian Brewster and Herbie Kane who came on as a sub would have enjoyed the experience. Ki-van Hoever showed good signs and despite him being played a a defender he was on hand to head home the vital second from a Milner cross [and it was Milner who got the first]. We were in the hat for the fourth round draw and got Arsenal at ome which will be a bigger test should Jurgen go with the ‘kids’.
