The Main Stand Has Left The Building

Liverpool v Chelsea usually gets the blood rushing – even curdling at times but this time it was just another end of season fixture between two sides entrenched in mid-table. Outside the ground that old feel of past visitations from the Kings Road crew wasn’t there, the mood typified the occasion. It showed on the pitch as well, almost a half hearted affair. At times Chelsea looked better than us and going into the final minutes they seemed winners as well. Somehow we salvaged a draw with a last gasp Benteke goal. He’d scored the opening goal of the Anfield season back in August, now he’d scored the last Anfield goal in May. Whether he’ll be around to repeat the feats next season who knows? At the final whistle we all said out goodbyes. With a bus to catch the ‘Thank You’ parade wasn’t watched but it didn’t really mean much. A few years ago we waved Carra farewell, then we celebrated nearly winning the league, last season we bade Stevie G goodbye but on this night we only had the Main Stand to say cheerio to. Not quite the same really.
