Pre-Season

In The Alpine Retreat

There was something different to the old norm with two half hour games arranged against Austrian side Wacker Innsbruck followed by one against the German side Stuttgart.  Jürgen picked a real young mixture for the first game but also included Joel Matip who managed the whole thirty minutes without getting injured.  Loris Karius was in goal!!!  Divock Origi netted from the penalty spot.  The game ended one-all as did the second game when Naby Keita also managed thirty minutes without coming to any harm.  Sadio scored.  Apparently VvD and Joe Gomez are still trying to get up to speed.  After this it was a game against our manager’s former club Mainz which was the more familiar 90 minute affair.  Or rather 45 minutes for our better side and then 45 minutes for the not so well known plus a few others.  We eventually won 1-0 thanks to a late own goal following a cross from Owen Beck.  Owen who?  Owen Beck, great nephew of Ian Rush that’s who.
