We go one down after just a couple of minutes and that sense of déjà vu comes calling. Against Leicester for 45-minutes we looked disjointed. We were on top, but something was missing. Leicester defended reasonably well but we could, should, have scored but we didn’t so as everyone goes for their halftime refreshments the scoreboard above the Kop still shows that we’re losing. Second half and yes, that sense of déjà vu is there, Gako scores and we’re on top, playing better, not brilliant but better. Jürgen sends for the cavalry. Darwin Núñez and Dominik Szoboszlai join the fray. Minutes later our own Magyar hits a shot so hard that if it hadn’t been for the net, it might have carried on travelling over the Mersey such was the speed and power. We continue to miss chances until Jota ends the contest with a goal as cheeky as they come. Yep déjà vu it was. Bournemouth away in the next round.
Déjà vu
