The big night is fast approaching and a landmark day in the history of RED ALL OVER THE LAND. On Saturday November 26th at 23 Hotel Anfield, we have our night with JAN MOLBY.
The event – using showbiz terminology – will be football themed and the Marquee bar will be adorned with Liverpool flags and banners, and we hope to have the greatest of all Liverpool banners on show, the Kops answer to the Turin shroud, the Joey Jones banner. The banner, known as the ‘Scouse Bayeux Tapestry’ was the creation of two great Reds, Phil Downey and Jimmy Cummings and it made its bow at the 1977 European Cup Final in Rome when Liverpool, of course, won old big ears for the first time by beating Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1. Along with the banner will be Phil’s surviving son, Adam and another member of the family and if you’re at the event you can finally get your photo taken – or do a selfie – in front of the banner. Just drop some coins of the realm in the bucket to aid our ABBEY LAWNS cause.
BLOODHUSKY will be there with a stall selling an independent selection of Liverpool merchandise all of a unique design with the possibility of some Jan Molby styled items as well.
We hope to have a stall with a few old Liverpool programmes on show and even the Fanzine.
ANDY KNOTT will be displaying some drawings and sketches which can be purchased or ordered on the night. Andy was also instrumental when the Kop Mosaics came about way back in 1998 and is still doing them now.
JOHN WILLIAMS, author of many Liverpool related books will be there and will no doubt bring a few copies his latest publication, REDMEN REBORN, the story of Liverpool from John Houlding to Jürgen Klopp.
KEVIN SAMPSON will be with us. Kev wrote the acclaimed drama ‘ANN’ which was shown on TV at the start of the year. With Kev will be JOHN MACKIN the man behind the famed Kop flag days and the brains behind the magnificent KOPS LAST STAND in 1994. If it hadn’t been for John that day wouldn’t have happened in the way that it did.
KAREN GILL will be there, and Karen is the granddaughter of our legendary manager, the founding father of the modern Liverpool, Bill Shankly. We hope to ask Karen to give us a granddaughter’s insight on the great man.
Helping us with the raffle will be REAGEN WILSON and if you don’t know Reagan, well I can just say she is a lovely young lady and we’ll proud to have her with us on the night.
We’re hoping for a few more additions to the night, but whatever we do it will remain all about JAN MOLBY and football.
The evening will start with a RED ALL OVER YOUTUBE recording with Jan, John Keith, Graham Mack and myself, with Graham hosting the show. Then the big event begins.
To start we have DAVID JAGGS of the Ragamuffins band playing a few Anfield tunes to get us all in the mood and once everyone has settled down Graham will introduce Jan who will tell us a story or two. There will be a Q&A session when the audience [crowd, if we’re keeping it football themed] can talk to Jan.
We’re also hoping to have a few clips of Jan in action and this is something we’re working on.
This will be followed by a few more songs and anthems before we get round to the fundraising activities which is another reason why we will be there. Raffle tickets will have been sold online before the event and they will be sold on the night. Auction bids can also be made online, and the catalogue will be distributed via emails and social media platforms. GRAHAM MACK will be our auctioneer and then Reagan will assist him with the raffle.
The evening will be rounded off with more music from our song Meister and then we can see what we have achieved in terms of fundraising.
ABBEY LAWNS Jannine French sent me these few words about the residential home. Abbey Lawns nursing home has been at the heart of the Anfield community for many years and is home to many local residents, we have two units within the home Anfield & Goodison to represent the stadiums within the city.
We are one of the oldest listed buildings on Anfield Road but go unnoticed as it’s set back behind tall walls and gates, within the grounds we have extensive land which we open up for match day parking and all monies raised go back into the home for the residents to do nice things for them and treat them to extras that some of them may never have or experience.
Our residents are wonderful people with a variety of health needs but each one of them unique in their own right, we treat our residents like family and to them are also family.
In the first issue of RED ALL OVER THE LAND when football returns, we’ll have an in-depth account of the evening, and we hope to have raised a good bit of money for our cause.
Below is a list of some of the raffle prizes we have although the list is being added to. If you can’t attend the event but would like to purchase tickets for the raffle, they are available from www.redallovertheland.com or just email me at:
redallovertheland@gmail.com.
STOP PRESS: We should also have in our presence PETER MELLING who will be bringing along a few of his replica trophies including the grand old lady, the Football League trophy that Liverpool won 18 times. Jan was part of the great Liverpool sides that won it under King Kenny. What a fantastic photo opportunity this will be, and we also hope to have a replica FA Cup with us as well. Peter has donated replica medals to the raffle and will be happy to let everyone know how they can get their own.
