Villa 4 Liverpool 2 & Mo

May 20, 2026

I was away on holiday when Liverpool travelled to Birmingham to play Aston Villa and due to the time difference of two hours, I didn’t find out our result until the following morning. I read and noted the flak which has become the normal reaction as our season grinds to a miserable conclusion.  Apparently by the time of the final whistle the away end was almost deserted and those that remained didn’t seem or sound too impressed either.

Twenty-four hours later it sounded like Mo had thrown another grenade into the arena and the aftereffects could be felt even when I was relaxing on a sun lounger. Mo had posed on social media and had been given the thumbs up by a few fellow teammates.  Searching through the aftermath was a bit confusing because critics, pundits and those, like Waynes Rooney, of no importance threw a few grenades back at Mo.  What I couldn’t fathom out was those taking pot shots at Mo have spent most of the season criticising the style of football Liverpool have served up this season, criticised Arne Slot, berated the performances of players but were now criticising Mo Salah for basically saying what they had been saying.  Meaning they can air their opinion, but Mo Salah can’t.  Rightly or wrongly Mo was also saying what the vast majority of supporters have been saying since November.

Most of the season has been an embarrassment and I just want it over.
