There was a funny feeling around Anfield before the Brighton game but inside the first minute Hugo lifted the mood. Bit by bit it felt we were doing things right. It wasn’t perfect but at least everyone seemed to be singing from the same carol sheet. When Mo came on, he looked a bit happier, and the second Hugo goal eased the tension. “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” even broke out. The squad imbalance was still there as we were forced to use three right backs, two of them makeshift and Robbo ended up on the left wing. A short step for Liverpool, whether it’s a giant step for the season we’ll soon find out.
