Welcome to Issue 319 of Red All Over The Land.

There’s no point in me droning on about the Arne/Mo issue because it gets enough mention in this Issue and it’s already bored the backside off the majority.  It’s not the first time a Liverpool player and the manager have had a tiff, and it won’t be the last.  It shouldn’t have happened and it surely became an embarrassment to all concerned.  Almost as big an embarrassment as a player getting sent off for thumping his own teammate but he got applauded by his manager and almost lauded in the press!

I’ve recently read comments by former Liverpool players about how they ‘hated’ a manager simply because the manager didn’t pick him or whatever.  It was just attention seeking or the former player trying to enhance his status in the world of punditry.  After this Mo/Arne thing too many were like a dog with a bone and again they were just doing it because it kept their name in the spotlight when they should have known better.  The mass media don’t need an excuse to savage Liverpool; they’re quite capable of doing that regardless.

Maybe what it did do is give a few a kick up the rear because our form was another embarrassment.  We’d not been performing like a team 100% behind the manager and the manager himself had sounded and looked confused about what was going on.  We’d not been playing like a team that was united on the pitch either but we’re not privy to what was happening away from the pitch but some of those well-informed former players [not necessarily former Liverpool players] were hinting at disharmony because of all the summer signings.  It’s now down to the players, the coaching staff, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to get things right on and off the pitch because if results don’t go the way we expect it won’t be Mo Salah those in Boston will be thinking about throwing under a bus.

Another transfer window is just around the corner and once Big Ben has struck twelve on New Years eve there will be as many rumours doing the rounds as fireworks going off on the banks of the River Mersey.  The summer window filled us with excitement, an excitement that started to wither away as some of the signings didn’t meet the immediate expectations of the fans.  I thought we’d got the best squad we’d had in years, almost a Premier League team waiting in the wings should the need arise.  Well, the need did arise, but we then seemed a few jigsaw pieces short.  Maybe we parted company with a few players in haste but that’s gone and there’s nothing we can do about it.  I don’t want to see us putting a team out in the FA Cup like the one we put out against Palace in the League Cup – another embarrassment.  We need to be capable of putting out a side worthy of representing Liverpool and winning matches.  So over to those concerned.

JJP: If the bus Liverpool threw Mo under was the Number 17 from Queens Square, Mo would have been okay. It’s never on time on match days and sometimes doesn’t even turn up.
