Welcome to Issue 320 of Red All Over The Land.

If the words, “You’re only as good as your last game” are true then Liverpool are very good after a superb 3-0 win in Marseille that means they are one win away from a top eight finish in the European League and automatic qualification for the last sixteen knockout stages.

Unfortunately, it’s what went before it that has left an odd taste in the mouth.  As I send this to the printers before the trip to the English south coast and Bournemouth we need to reflect on other things

The mood around Anfield hasn’t been good.  It’s not just football either.

After the one-all draw with Burnley and not for the first time in recent weeks there was isolated booing at the final whistle.  This, despite the team being on a 12-match [which is now thirteen] unbeaten run in all competitions.  I don’t need to break down the numbers but fair to say, the unbeaten league run has seen draws against sides we should have beaten although the 0-0 at Arsenal was credible even if we didn’t have a shot on target.

One gripe is the football being served up, even in games when we’ve won.  Hearing the crowd singing “A team that plays the Liverpool way” against Burnley was a tad ironic because whatever was being played out there on the pitch was anything but the Liverpool way.  This has been the case for too long this season and Arne seems reluctant to change things or doesn’t know how to.

Arne’s title is head coach but whether there’s any interference from elsewhere, Edwards or Hughes, I don’t know.  Nobody seems to be in any hurry to get in additional cover and the two players we were rumoured to be interested in have joined Manchester City.  Back on the previous transfer deadline day one of them was posing in Liverpool colours.  So, what changed their thinking?

I’m not in the corner of those who advocate the sacking of a manager [Head Coach] but Arne has started to come across as a bit negative.  We all know the injuries have stacked up and that’s unfortunate, but it happens.  There may be logistical reasons why we can’t get Harvey Elliott back, but I doubt Arne wants him.  When asked about the possibility of using Calvin Ramsey as full back cover he suggested he had better options.

Another issue getting to supporters is the chaotic full search when going into the ground.  The reasons for the search may be valid, but the execution of the process is not going down well.  “Get there 10-minutes earlier” is the mantra coming from within.  How early do they want us to go in because against Burnley fans were queuing for over half an hour and still missed the kick-off.  There are rumours it’s because of terrorist threats and the directive has come from the Premier League, but no real explanations have been given.  It was just dropped on the fans and instead of improving over the half dozen or so games it has gotten steadily worse.  The one game a season tourist might not complain but the real fans, those who turn up game after game are starting to let their feelings be known.

Queuing for over half an hour, then being expected to raise the Anfield roof while watching drab and passionless football isn’t what we want.  Or is this now the Anfield experience they tell us about?  Anyway, we beat Marseille and following that the dark, dark days of winter had a glint of light.

JJP: The only thing to look forward to, is the past.  I hope not, not at my age.
