Welcome to Issue 322 of Red All Over The Land.

We can’t deny that since they became the custodians of Liverpool FC, FSG have done us proud.  Most of what they’ve done for the club has been for the good of not just the club but also the supporters.  However, the rise in line with inflation over the next three years regarding ticket prices has been, rightly, seen as a kick in the teeth.  The response of such as the Spirit of Shankly and others is covered in detail elsewhere in this issue.  However, the first action has been announced and that is, NOT ANOTHER POUND IN THE GROUND [See SoS comment].  That is just the starting point, there will be more to come.  The genuine fan base are living in a period of elongated austerity which billionaires may not be aware of, and the signs are that things won’t be improving anytime soon.  The club should listen.

What we’re witnessing on the pitch isn’t helping the mood and feelings are being voiced at the final whistle.  It hasn’t been prolonged nor hostile [yet] but fans are sending a clear message to the manager, [I don’t do head coach], the players and anyone else concerned with team selection and tactics.  Dominic Szoboszlai has commented on the crowd’s reactions recently so maybe the message is getting through.  From nothing more than a supporter’s view, the players don’t look like a team, they don’t look fit and the tactics seem to bemuse them. Team selections and substitutions in general, baffle the majority.  Arne often seems at a loss to explain things.  There appears no confidence in his voice before or after games.  He obviously knows the pressure is on, it feels like he can’t deal with it.

Red All Over The Land, as a publication, continues to struggle and I feel that’s down to the make-up of the crowd these days, I’ve said this before.  At the recent legends’ game, the make-up of the crowd was different.  Locals and past fans who can no longer get tickets were there.  Despite a gale force wind almost blowing people off their feet, Fanzine sales were better than at recent league and European games.  If the usual selling team had been around, I believe sales would have been the best of the season.  Subscriptions recently have increased, so there is something for me to be cheerful about.  At the game it was good to see so many youngsters getting the chance to see Steven Gerrard et al wearing red.  It’s a shame it can’t be like this on a normal match day.

There will be one more issue after this, but it won’t be a Mo special because he will soon be the past and we need to be looking at the future.

JJP: They say the club now treats us more like customers than supporters. Well, if Anfield was a shop, I wouldn’t be going back.
